Mahmoud Hussein, a senior journalist at Al Jazeera Arabic Channel, was illegally detained by the Egyptian authorities from December 23, 2016 until February 6, 2021. His arrest was dubious; there were no formal charges, nor ever a trial throughout the four years.
Al Jazeera Media Network’s International Communications department worked on a four-year campaign, demanding the release of Hussein, which succeeded.
